Sunday and I have a LOVE/HATE relationship. Part of me loves them because I don't have to work, I can get stuff done and feel accomplished at the end of the day. But lets get real... too many Sundays are spent worrying about the dreaded M word. Dare I say it? MONDAY. Oh Monday, I'll think about you tomorrow. In fact, last Sunday I don't think I relaxed much at all! Today I am making it a priority to slow down, have fun, and RELAX. Although, with finals to grade, my relaxation may have to wait until later in day. Teacher life friends. But more on that in a different post. Even if your Sunday is spent working, you can slow-it-down on any day off! Here are some ideas for how you can slow-it- down this Sunday and recharge your batteries , if only for a small amount of time.
1. READ SOMETHING
Newsflash: I'm a HUGE nerd. I LOVE reading but I don't have much time for it these days. I'm either reading whatever book I'm teaching my students, reading Sawyer "The Grumpy Monkey", or reading news articles that just stress me out. To slow my brain down I try to put down my phone , go to my comfy spot, and read a book! Even if it's just 20 minutes. It's still an escape and it takes my mind away from worries and a never ending to do list. I've made a book list for summer vacation and I'm excited to dive into those in June, but for the meantime here are my current reads. Most of these are poetry or short stories, PERFECT if you only have a few minutes to relax and pick up a book. Add a cup of tea ( or wine) and BAM you have a few minutes to relax.
Here's a snapshot of my comfy reading room! I'm proud of it because it's filled with decor I thrifted and found at antique shops, comfy floor pillows, and things that relax me and make me happy. Guys, floor pillows are AHHHHMAZING. Seriously, I wish my whole house was just a huge comfy floor pillow nest. A girl can dream right? Bonus points if you can spot out cat Luna in this photo.
2. GET OUTSIDE AND MOVE ...OR JUST MOVE
I love nature. Something about getting outside (even if you have to force yourself) is calming. Even if you just take a walk around your neighborhood, or sit under a dang tree and breathe. Nature is medicine. If you're in the city or nature isn't your thing, find a cute bookstore, or a cafe to relax in! Or find nature in the city! (It exists if you look for it). Getting out for a bit is key.
We love hiking! I'll admit- the first time my husband said we should go for a hike I couldn't hide my "ARE YOU CRAZY SIR?" face. But, guess what? I enjoyed it. We have even hiked mountains. But, mountains aren't really for Sundays are they? Maybe they are if you're motivated enough. If that's you please send me some of that motivation!
Can't get outside? Do an exercise video! stretch! Do some yoga! As a mama it's sometimes hard for me to get in exercise all at once. Doing a 15 minute video a couple times a day is just as good as doing it all at once!

Again, a fish I caught in the Grand River, in the middle of our city. Nature is hiding everywhere! Also, who says you can't fish and hike whilst wearing red lipstick? Red lipstick always. The photo below is on a hiking and rustic camping trip in the Porcupine Mountains in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Again, camping while wearing red lipstick. There's a story behind my dedication to red lipstick. Maybe I'll tell you about it sometime.
And for you crazy hikers who are going out to hike on this Sunday! ( I admire you). Here's one of my favorite hiking photos. This was taken in Bray, Ireland. I loved this mountain and this place so much that Sawyer's middle name is "Bray". So peaceful and beautiful.
No matter what you choice to do , make a conscious choice to be mindful and slow it down today! You deserve to recharge your batteries! Self- care is NOT selfish. Take a few minutes to breathe and just "be".
